Do you recognize any of these folks? This was a 6th grade class from Whispering Hills Elementary school. Do you have any photos of the class of '66 that I can share on this site? Please drop me a note and we'll work it out....
Remember Parkway. This is a picture of our 8th grade cheeleaders. I don't remember all these names....Renee will have to fill me in. Renee is the first on the left bottm and Barbara D. is next to her, Elaine S. and Linda M, are in the middle in the back. And I think that's Connie O. in the far right in the back. Era S. bottom row far right. What a time...Parkway is now the Brevard County Sherrif's Office.
Remember those Friday night football games at Draa Field? Hot and humid as only Florida can be. Hot dogs and cokes, cheerleaders, the band playing at half time.
This is Lewis Ouzts and I think that's Joan Yates.

MIMS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Built in 1917, the old building stood until the mid 70's when it was torn down and a new wing added. I was in Mrs. Thigpen's 6th grade class located in the first room to the left of the front door on the bottom floor. I have a lot of memories from this time in my life. What a tomboy I was. I loved to play baseball at recess. We had some playground equipment that would be a parent's nightmare today. One thing I remember was something that looked like a maypole with chains hanging from it. We would all grab a handle at the bottom of the chains and run around the pole as fast as we could and the momentum would lift us up and we would soar around about 10 feet or so off the ground. If you let go it would sling you half way across the playground and you'd have to go wash the blood off. If you were lucky, one of the bigger boys would lift you up and start running then 'throw' you up and out and you would soar really high and fast around the pole. I remember Easter 1960. We had to take 3 colored eggs to school. I put on my jeans and tennis shoes and my Mom put my eggs in a paper sack and I rode my bike to school. When I got there....all the girls had worn their Easter dresses. I got teased all day (no baseball) and Ms. Thigpen sent a note home to my Mom, something about getting help if they couldn't afford to buy an Easter dress for me. My Mother was furious and fired off an indignant letter to Mrs. Thigpen and boxed my ears for not telling her I was supposed to dress up that Friday. I also remember having to sit in an 'open air chair' with Norman Crapps for spitting peas at each other through straws in the lunch room. Mrs. Thigpen was mercilous. I had to sit with Wayne Porter so he could help me catch up my arithmatic. (I had trouble with long division) And I remember many girls in the class had pictures of Eddie Joe Davenport on their desks in little frames. He was perpetually red in the face and very very quiet. I had a crush on Norman but he liked Sandra VanNeuenhize. Below is our class picture taken at the 6th grade banquet. Roger Crum's wife Julie was kind enough to send it to me, and I am thrilled to have a copy. I might not have all the names exactly, and if you see an error, or can id someone I can't...Please let me know.

Gerri Strauss moved to Titusville in 1960 and attended THS with us through 7th, 8th and 9th grades. She dated Sam Wortham in 1963 and not only is she sharing her memories of that time, she is sharing her old photos and newspaper clippings. Gerri now lives in Texas. Even though she moved from Titusville after our freshman year, she was still in touch with Sam until his death, and with his family long after. We are so grateful to her for these wonderful pictures.
Following are pictures of the 1963-64 season Football team from the Star Advocate.
Thanks Barry for this wonderful shot of our own ALLSTARS. What a great picture.
